One of my favorite childhood pastimes was making collages. All aspiring artists remember doing this while glued to the floor with a friend, glue sticks in hand, frantically cutting magazine and newspaper clippings. Sometimes they’d be tucked away in a drawer, and other times they’d be on a fridge, eventually showing wear and tear. Collaging has a close relative, and it’s known as vision boarding. This hands on art is a great tool for manifestation, helping turn ideas into actions.
“Essentially, a vision board is ‘a map to where you want to go’”, says Zakiya Larry, media and life coach, in an interview with Oprah Daily. Unlike mood boards, which focus on aesthetics, a vision board encompasses the complete picture of one’s ambitions in life. Feel free to decorate your board as intricately as you wish, after all, no one is stopping you.
“Vision boards help us stop and consider what we want the most,” says Suzy Rosenstein, Master Life Coach & Midlife Mentor. ‘Creating the life you want doesn’t happen by accident.’ Many celebrities such as Eckhart Tolle and Deepak Chopra recommend the act of visualization as one of the essential elements for realizing one’s dreams.
Many researchers have ascertained that vision boards are effective in working toward a specific goal. As stated by Psychology Today, visualization exercises can be useful in coping with nervousness, practicing for important occasions, or actualizing one’s objectives. This happens because of the Reticular Activating System (RAS) which is responsible for message filtration and paying attention to the most important ones. All your goals must be in the top of your mind: “The more your goals are at the top of your head the more your subconscious will be working to accomplish them,” explains Ruben Gonzalez, a writer of The Courage to Succeed who has participated in the Olympics four times. Goal setting, visualization and regular speeches are essential practices.
The same applies should you wish to start a business, would like to master yoga, would like to go to Zanzibar or wish to learn how to restore furniture, pictures that inspire you can be useful. First, here are directions on how to make a vision board.
